Forage Kentucky bluegrass is a forage producing bluegrass. Unlike its cousins, the turf types, it forms a wide leafy blade and grows relatively tall. Bluegrasses prefer cool spring and fall temperatures. Therefore, blending this variety with other forage grasses is recommended for season long forage production. In general, Kentucky bluegrass has the highest quality color and texture of the cool season grasses. Bluegrass needs above average rainfall or irrigation to prevent summer dormancy caused by heat.
